广东省造光绪元宝寿字双龙币有两种版式，即库平重一两币和库平七钱二币，两种版式的钱币设计风格一样，但是在细节上有很多区别。由于广东省当时铸造此币的目的是奉献清廷以祝慈禧太后万寿，所以铸额不大，大多奉献给清廷或赠于当时的达官显贵，见于民间流通的很少。
此币是1898年光绪权利到达巅峰之时而铸造，只是因为宫廷政变，光绪帝被慈禧投入监狱后此币才未能流通。这种观点也符合历史。
该币是中国所有龙洋图案银元（包括国外发行的所有银币）中，工艺精湛，雕工完美，浮雕感强烈的品种，镜面平整光滑，纹饰的相惯线显得非常清晰，特别是广东一两系列银币铸造精美，字口、纹路和边齿深峻，完全是国外铸造的样币风格。作为准备流通的货币（尽管没有流通），其暗记防伪更是少有后无来者，无可匹敌，钱币表面的包浆醇厚，即便是对银元没有研究的外行也是爱不释手，极具观赏性。
古钱币极具观赏性与历史价值，因此古钱币如同其他古玩一样被藏家们所青睐。中国最早的机制洋式银元为光绪年间的“光绪元宝”，俗称“龙洋”，因银元背面一 般铸有龙纹而得名。珍稀古钱币是货币历史的实物，由于早已不在流通领域，留存下来的亦少之极少，更是历史的见证。

The earliest foreign style silver coin in China is the "Guangxu Yuanbao" in the reign of Guangxu, commonly known as "Longyang", which is named after the dragon pattern on the back of the silver coin.
